Safeguarding at Cavendish Marital Arts
At Cavendish Marital Arts, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants, whether they are children, young people, or adults. Ensuring the welfare of everyone who steps through our doors is our top priority.
Our Safeguarding Principles
We follow the key principles outlined by leading UK safeguarding bodies, ensuring our practices align with the best standards in sport and education. These principles include:
- Safety First: The well-being of our members comes above all else.
- Respect for All: Every individual, regardless of age, gender, background, or ability, is treated with dignity and respect.
- Empowerment: Encouraging participants to speak up about any concerns and ensuring they feel heard and supported.
- Accountability: Taking responsibility for ensuring safeguarding measures are implemented, monitored, and reviewed regularly.
Safeguarding Measures in Place
To maintain a safe environment, we have put the following measures in place:
- Trained Coaches and Staff
All coaches and staff members are thoroughly vetted and hold up-to-date DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks. They also receive regular safeguarding training to stay informed on best practices. - Clear Policies and Procedures
Our safeguarding policy outlines the steps we take to protect participants and how we address any concerns policies are reviewed annually to ensure they remain current and effective. - Code of Conduct
All members, parents, and staff are expected to adhere to our Code of Conduct, which promotes respect, fairness, and integrity both on and off the mat. - Reporting Concerns
We have clear and accessible channels for reporting safeguarding concerns. Participants, parents, and staff are encouraged to report any issues, knowing they will be taken seriously and handled confidentially. - Safe Training Practices
Classes are conducted in a structured and supervised manner to minimise risk. We ensure all techniques are age-appropriate and taught in a way that prioritises safety. - Parental Involvement
For younger participants, parents are welcome to observe sessions and are kept informed about their child’s progress and well-being.
Protecting Children and Young People
We understand that children and young people are especially vulnerable, and we are dedicated to safeguarding their rights and welfare. Our policies align with the guidelines set out by UK organisations such as the NSPCC and Sport England.
How You Can Help
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We encourage parents, participants, and staff to:
- Familiarise themselves with our safeguarding policy.
- Report concerns promptly, no matter how small they may seem.
- Foster an environment of open communication and trust.
